Application areas in companies
D&B has been using the D-U-N-S® numbering system it developed as an essential basis for all of its products, solutions and ratings for 45 years. The numbering system appears in every business area - credit and risk management, procurement as well as sales and marketing.
The D&B D-U-N-S® Number is used in:
- Matching up every relevant item of information on credit and counter-party risks for any particular debtor, giving you an objective information basis to make decisions.
- Revealing corporate linkages amongst suppliers, pinpointing cost-cutting opportunities as well as new and promising procurement sources while recognising risk of bad debt. Financial service companies and companies on stock exchanges in the US are even required to show linkages in risk management.
- Uniquely identifying companies wherever they are in the world. This increases transparency in your own counter-party data, giving you more information on potential customer and market opportunities.
D&B allocates and maintains D&B D-U-N-S® Numbers on a central basis. Each number is allocated to one company only. A company can still be uniquely identified if it changes its corporate form or address - or even moves abroad.
The D&B D-U-N-S® Number is endorsed and used by organisations such as the German automobile industry association (VDA) and chemical industry association (VCI) as well as the European commission and the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO).
